WesternU's Ray Symposium to examine health care reform

Western University of Health Sciences will hold the annual Ray Symposium at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012 in the Health Education Center, 701 E. Second St., Pomona, Calif. 91766.

Keynote speaker Joshua S. Benner, PharmD, ScD, president and CEO of RxAnte Inc. and visiting scholar, the Brookings Institution, will present “Reforming Health Care: Policy, Politics and Patient Care.”

Benner is a fellow in the Economics Studies program and research director at the Engelberg Center for Health Care Reform at the Brookings Institution. His work focuses on improving the safety, effectiveness and value of health care.

He directs a portfolio of activities related to medical product safety surveillance, comparative effectiveness research, clinical research and development, and FDA policy. He is also an adjunct scholar at the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He holds a doctor of pharmacy degree from Drake University and a doctor of science in health policy and management from the Harvard University School of Public Health.

The Ray Symposium is organized by the College of Pharmacy in honor of Max Ray, MS, PharmD, Dean Emeritus of the College of Pharmacy. He joined WesternU as Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Director of the Center for Pharmacy Practice and Development in 1996, and served as Dean of the College of Pharmacy from 1999 to 2006.
