WesternU Takes Part in Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes

More than 400 WesternU Team walkers and virtual walkers raised more than $8,200 (as of Oct. 29, 2012) for the American Diabetes Association Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes on Oct. 27, 2012 in Griffith Park, Los Angeles.

The WesternU Team goal was $10,000. Donations can still be made at www.diabetes.org. Click on any of the WesternU Teams to donate.

More than 2,000 walkers and more than 300 teams participated in the walk. The Los Angeles walk’s goal was to raise $327,000 and it achieved $145,281 (as of Oct. 29, 2012).

WesternU, which was the presenting sponsor for the Step Out, was represented by teams from the Western Diabetes Institute, College of Podiatric Medicine, College of Optometry, College of Allied Health Professions, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, College of Pharmacy, College of Dental Medicine, and the American Indian Health Career Ladder.

Special recognition goes out to the COMP-Northwest virtual walkers for being well represented, and to COMP second-year student Izzy Pines for raising the most money.
