WesternU Readies for 24th Annual ""Tribute to Caring"" Gala
Western University of Health Sciences will celebrate the 24th annual “”A
Tribute to Caring”” gala on Saturday, November 13, at the Beverly Hills
Hotel. The gala is held each year to benefit excellence in education and
scholarship.
The university presents three awards to persons who best represent the
humanistic philosophy of the university.
The “”Elie Wiesel Humanism in Healing Award”” will be presented to The Los
Angeles Times. Going beyond its journalistic excellence, The Times is
committed to being a responsible and caring corporate citizen. In 2004,
Times-sponsored campaigns raised nearly $8 million for youth and health
care programs throughout the county.
Renowned talk show host, motivational speaker and philanthropist Montel
Williams will be honored with the “”Media Award for Advancement in Health
and Humanism.”” A daytime Emmy-award winner as well as a philanthropist,
Montel Williams faced his most challenging obstacle with the announcement
of his diagnosis with multiple sclerosis in 1999. As a result of this,
Montel was inspired to create the Montel Williams M.S. foundation to
raise funds for M.S. research. Montel is committed to promoting
awareness, raising funds for research and providing inspiration to those
who have M.S.
The “”Corporate Award for Excellence in Health Care”” will be presented to
Banfield, the Pet Hospital. This award recognizes organizations that are
actively advancing the quality and availability of health care in the
