Western University of Health Sciences students and faculty will help give health screenings at HSBC Bank branches throughout the San Gabriel Valley.

WesternU is partnering with several other organizations to bring “2008 Healthy Heart Saturdays” screenings to HSBC Bank branches. The screenings will take place over six consecutive Saturdays beginning Aug. 30 in Alhambra (see schedule below). The health screenings were announced Thursday, Aug. 21 in Industry.

“Cardiovascular disease is a silent killer,” said Robert Chen, senior marketing manager for Central Health Medicare Plan (CHMP), one of the main sponsors of the program. “Let’s prevent its progression from some symptoms to full-blown cardiovascular disease.”

CHMP, along with Physicians’ Healthways and Advantage Care, will provide stroke screenings. Procter & Gamble will provide osteoporosis screenings, and WesternU students and faculty will provide glucose screenings and will measure blood pressure and body mass index.

“On behalf of Western University, we are proud to partner with HSBC to bring these health fairs to the HSBC community,” said Bartley Yee, DO, Assistant Professor of Family Medicine in the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific at WesternU. “WesternU faculty, students and graduates have a long history of serving California and particularly the Southern California area as quality health care professionals.”

HSBC Bank USA is allowing the use of its branches for the health fairs. Other partners include Wing Hop Fung and Alhambra Hospital Medical Center.

“As a financial institution, we care about people’s financial health, but we also care about their physical health,” said Tina Hwang, HSBC Bank first vice president/branch manager. “If you don’t have physical health, you can’t enjoy your financial health.”
