WesternU participating in health fair at Festival Cardenas

Western University of Health Sciences’ Western Diabetes Institute (WDI) will help provide free health screenings from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014 during the 8th annual Festival Cardenas at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.

WDI will provide free blood sugar, blood pressure and periodontal screenings, BMI and nutrition advice.

The health fair will offer community-based opportunities for WesternU Longitudinal Chronic Care Course (LC3) students to volunteer for the event. LC3 is a College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific pilot program that pairs students with Western Diabetes Institute patients.

Tens of thousands are expected to enjoy the festival’s food and entertainment, including headliners in popular Banda and Norteno music.

Latin Grammy Award Winners Los Tucanes De Tijuana, who was most recently recognized as Grupo Norteño of the Year; contemporary Mexican Banda, La Original Banda De Limon, and Voz De Mando from Los Angeles, California, who made a name for themselves with the song “Comandos del M.P. (500 Balazos)," which was a breakout hit for the group, reaching the Top Ten of the Billboard Regional Mexican Songs chart.

Lucha Libre wrestlers Lafuerza Mexicana De Lucha Libre with Tinieblas will also be on hand.

The Largest Rosca de Reyes (100 ft.), a Festival Cake for 30,000 guests, and 10,000 pieces of Pan de Muerto are part of hundreds of exhibits and giveaways for the entire family, announced Marco Robles, public affairs director for Cardenas Markets.
