Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU) Regional Center at Las

Vegas has hired Janet Wheble, PA-C, as clinical coordinator for the

University’s Primary Care Physician Assistant Education program.

Wheble comes to WesternU from Emergency Physicians Medical Group in Las

Vegas, where she worked as an emergency room physician assistant. She also

has an affiliation with Southwest Medical Associates Urgent Care in Las

Vegas.

“”I decided to come to WesternU because I wanted to apply my health care

knowledge to the field of education,”” Wheble said. “”I had some exposure to

WesternU graduates, and I was impressed with their skills. The University

has a first-rate operation, and I wanted to be a part of it.””

WesternU’s board of trustees voted to open an administrative office in Las

Vegas in 1998. The Primary Care Physician Assistant Education (PA) program

at WesternU was founded in 1990, and graduates almost 100 students a year.

In 1998 the University’s PA graduates exceeded the national average in

physician assistant board scores for the sixth consecutive year, and the

University’s passing rate for first-time takers was 97 percent.

Wheble will be working to set up additional clinical rotation sites for

students in the Primary Care Physician Assistant Education (PA) program.

The University currently has affiliations with two hospitals in Las Vegas-

University Medical Center and Mountain View Hospital-and plans to expand

this number to five.

Wheble earned her physician assistant degree from the University of Texas.

She is certified as an emergency medical technician, is licensed with the

Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners, and is a fellow with the American

Academy of Physician Assistants.

According to Stephanie Bowlin, EdD, PA-C, chair of WesternU’s PA program,

Wheble’s clinical background made her an obvious choice for the position.

“”Her direct influential bearing on the PA community in Nevada and her

knowledge of the issues the area faces are invaluable qualities,”” Dr.

Bowlin said.

Wheble resides in Las Vegas with her husband, Jim. The couple has two

children.
