WesternU COMP-Northwest professor earns Distinguished Faculty Award

John T. Pham, DO, Vice Chair of the Department of Family Medicine, was recently awarded the COMP Distinguished Faculty Award for Leadership and Service. This award recognizes a faculty member from COMP’s Pomona and Lebanon campuses for exemplary leadership, service and contributions to WesternU and COMP committees, professional and/or local communities/societies/organizations, the development and implementation of COMP programs, and for demonstrating a commitment to high standards of professional life.

Dr. Pham is involved with teaching all four ECM (Essentials of Clinical Medicine I-IV) courses and is a preceptor for third- and fourth-year medical students. He precepts medical students at the Edward C. Allworth Veterans Home in Lebanon, and family medicine residents at the Samaritan Family Residency Clinic.

Dr. Pham serves as the Chair of the COMP Admissions Committee, SOMA Club Advisor, Global Health Advisor, and on several other committees within the college and University.

His service to students and his leadership in education extend beyond the Oregon campus. He holds positions with the AOA Board of Education, the AOA Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA), National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME), and the National Setting Panelist for COMLEX 2 PE. Dr. Pham conducts pre-health screenings with medical students at the Asian Health & Service Center’s Annual Health Fair. He is the current president of the Northwest Osteopathic Medical Foundation.

In the Lebanon community, Dr. Pham has helped complete sports physicals for Pop Warner Football and Lebanon High School sports. He is an active member of the Lebanon Strawberrians.

Dr. Pham has earned several awards over his career including the AOA Mentor of the Year, which was awarded to him in 2007. Other awards include the DO of the Year Award from Osteopathic Physicians & Surgeons of Oregon (OPSO); the Rising Star Award; and the Lifelong Teaching Award.

COMP and COMP-Northwest thank Dr. Pham for his leadership and service to the college and university.
