WesternU College of Optometry’s Dr. Raymond Maeda to receive 2025 Acta Non Verba Award

Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs Raymond Maeda, OD, FAAO, has been named a recipient of the 2025 Acta Non Verba Award, presented by the Lestonnac Free Clinic.
The official list of awardees was recently released online, recognizing outstanding individuals who embody the clinic’s mission of service. The Acta Non Verba Award celebrates leaders who lead by example, demonstrating compassion, dedication, and a deep commitment to improving access to health care for underserved communities.
“It is a tremendous honor to be receiving this award for many different reasons. The past recipients have been physicians and community leaders who have made significant contributions that allowed the community served by the Lestonnac clinics to benefit from much needed care without the financial burdens that can arise,” Dr. Maeda said. “The mission and vision of the Lestonnac organization align well with the values of WesternU so the partnership truly made sense. They provide free health care services to low-income and uninsured residents and look to expand the health care safety net to marginalized communities through meaningful and thoughtful collaborations and partnerships. To be honored by such an organization leaves me very humbled. I am honored to receive this on behalf of my colleagues who provide health care services at Lestonnac as well as the University.”
In the broader context of growing focus on patient-centered care in the field of optometry, Dr. Maeda’s devotion and his service through education and community outreach exemplify the shared values of WesternU and the Lestonnac Free Clinic.
“Dr. Maeda’s commitment to his patients, students, and community reflects the very essence of this award,” said WesternU College of Optometry Founding Dean Elizabeth Hoppe, OD, MPH, DrPH. “We are proud to see his contributions recognized in such a meaningful way.”
The Acta Non Verba Gala, hosted annually by the Lestonnac Free Clinic, celebrates health care professionals, volunteers, and advocates who embody the clinic’s mission to provide free, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision care, a theme that aligns with the trending topic of improving health care access.
The 2025 Gala will take place Friday, Oct. 17, 2025, at the Hyatt Regency Orange County celebrating this year’s honorees and continuing to raise awareness and support for the clinic’s vital programs.
