WesternU College of Optometry student wins Optometry Student Challenge

Fourth-year Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry student Ilya Volk presented a scientific poster at the 2019 Global Specialty Lens Symposium in Las Vegas Jan. 24-27, 2019.

Volk was one of three optometry students to win the Optometry Student Challenge, a program designed by ABB Optical Group in partnership with Paragon Vision Sciences to foster the study of contact lenses.

Volk’s abstract was selected among more than 90 submissions as a winner. He received a travel stipend of $1,500 to attend the symposium and convert his  abstract into a scientific paper. He presented on the benefit of scleral lens in the treatment of a post-corneal transplant epithelial defect.
