Marlene R. Miller has been appointed to the position of vice president of

facilities management and physical plant at Western University of Health

Sciences (WesternU). She was previously vice president of campus and human

resources.

In her new role, Miller will concentrate her time on construction and

development of WesternU’s physical plant and other properties. Her most

immediate projects will be overseeing the construction of WesternU’s new

Learning Resource Center and Veterinary Science Center. Both projects are

expected to be near completion by the end of 2000.

“”It’s very exciting to work on projects of this magnitude,”” Miller

said. “”I really enjoy the challenge of ensuring that the University’s

facilities serve as the best possible educational setting for our

students.””

Miller will continue to be responsible for campus security, which is

currently provided by a 19-member team, and off-campus University

properties, of which there are about 15 scattered throughout the western

United States.

According to Stuart Wiener, executive vice president of

finance/administration and chief operating officer of WesternU, Miller’s

18 years of experience at the University made her a perfect candidate for

this important role.

“”The position was needed because of the University’s ongoing expansion,””

said Wiener. “”Marlene’s familiarity with the University will be invaluable

because she really knows the mission and goals of our institution, and now

she’ll be able to ensure that our facilities align with those ideals.””

Miller is a member of the National Association of Colleges and

Universities Business Officers and also is involved with the National

Association of Female Executives. On a local level, she is on the board of

directors for Park Avenue Hospital in Pomona. She lives in Ontario with

her husband, Vaughn, a consultant and expert witness for the Carpet

Manufacturers Association who is also an avid golfer.
