Western University of Health Sciences’ College of Dental Medicine and ICE Health Systems are launching a distinctive entry into the digital learning arena, VirtualU@WesternU.

VirtualU@WesternU, www.virtualu-westernu.com, will provide courses for practicing health care providers and digital curriculum for academic institutions. The initial offerings will include continuing education courses primarily centered on oral health for all types of health care providers.

“The world of health care education is changing at a rate that will increasingly challenge the academic and practice communities’ ability to keep pace,” said College of Dental Medicine Dean Steven W. Friedrichsen, DDS. “At WesternU, we are developing a technology platform that is malleable and flexible to embrace the ever-demanding changes of the way information is delivered in the future.”

VirtualU@WesternU will have courses in Head and Neck Anatomy, Local Anesthesia, Medical Emergencies and other topics that will be released over the next few months.

VirtualU@WesternU will provide academic health care education programs with integration support services as well as online content. The goal is to substantially increase access to advanced training and support for dentists, thereby improving patient health. The online content will include pre-developed courses for the health sciences curriculum as well as the capability to customize existing courses to any of three learning platform levels from a foundational learning management system to a fully functional adaptive learning environment.

Advanced, multi-year continuum-style courses in dental implants, endodontics, Quality and Patient Safety in the health care environment as well as pre-developed curriculum content suitable for the graduate professional will be announced in the near future. Further details about the programs and their availability can be found at www.virtualu-westernu.com.

“We are very pleased to be working with Western University of Health Sciences’ College of Dental Medicine on this exciting project in advanced education,” said Dr. Mark Genuis, CEO of ICE Health Systems. “Using technology to make the highest quality advanced training more accessible to professionals worldwide will only lead to greater success for providers and improved patient care.”
