Western University of Health Sciences has been named a “Great College to Work For” by the Chronicle of Higher Education for the third consecutive year, and also made the Honor Roll for the first time.

WesternU received recognition in six categories: Collaborative Governance, Compensation and Benefits, Confidence in Senior Leadership, Job Satisfaction, Professional Development Programs, and Respect & Appreciation.

“Western University of Health Sciences is a great place to work because the foundational philosophy of the University is carried out on a daily basis by the people who work, teach and learn here,” said WesternU President Philip Pumerantz, PhD. “Our humanistic philosophy puts an emphasis on compassion and caring. It’s passed on to every student who spends time here; equally important, it’s lived out on a day-to-day basis by WesternU’s faculty and staff. The way we treat one another – compassionately, respectfully, and with the concern one holds for family members – is at the very heart of who we are as an institution and an employer.”

WesternU was one of 92 colleges and universities deemed a Great College to Work For, drawing from 278 participating institutions in 2014, including 196 four-year institutions and 82 two-year institutions.

WesternU is one of 42 institutions on the Honor Roll, which were recognized the most in their size categories.

The Chronicle’s 2014 Great Colleges to Work For program recognizes small groups of colleges (based on enrollment size) for specific best practices and policies. Now in its seventh year, the Great Colleges program has become one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country.

“The Chronicle’s Great Colleges program provides readers with important information about the colleges and institutions we cover,” said Liz McMillen, editor, The Chronicle of Higher Education. “The institutions that the Great Colleges program recognizes provide innovative educational experiences – while also offering their employees outstanding workplace experiences – and we are eager to help readers learn more about them.”
