Western University of Health Sciences held its first virtual Pre-Health Advisor Conference (PHAC) on Feb. 21, 2013.

The Office of University Recruitment/Strategic Enrollment Management held the virtual conference to showcase WesternU’s academic programs for pre-health advisors from across the country, including Oregon, Washington, Utah, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Iowa, Alabama and Arizona. Pre-health advisors provide guidance and resources to undergraduate students interested in health professions careers.

In an effort to expand the University’s outreach to those advisors who may not have been able to travel to California to attend the conference in person, WesternU linked to 26 conference participants via the Adobe Connect software and 360 camera technology.

WesternU President Philip Pumerantz, PhD, gave a personal welcome to the participants, noting that the University’s track record has been very impressive – students score at the top of national boards and successfully find jobs, residencies and internships.

“But underlying all of that is this notion of caring and compassion,” he said. “We’re a people-oriented organization. We’re delighted you’re here, and we hope this is very meaningful for all of you.”

Janine Bissic and Christy Ho, PHAC co-chairs, noted, “This was an exciting opportunity for our Office of University Recruitment/Strategic Enrollment Management. We were extremely pleased that our vision to utilize our on-campus technology to connect with pre-health advisors around the country came to fruition and was received with positive feedback.”

During the conference, WesternU provided an overview of all nine of its colleges and 22 different academic programs, as well as an extensive Q & A session with the WesternU Directors of Admissions.

“We are excited to have had this opportunity to present our information in this first-time virtual format to pre-health advisors,” said Jullie W. McCurdy, MEd, director of the WesternU Office of University Recruitment/Strategic Enrollment Management. “We look forward to continuing to use the technology available to us regarding opportunities to reach a greater audience of prospective students and advisors locally, nationally, and internationally.”
