University celebrates 23rd annual ""A Tribute to Caring"" event

Western University of Health Sciences will celebrate the 23rd

annual “”A Tribute to Caring”” gala on Saturday, October 25, at the Beverly

Hills Hotel. The gala is held each year to benefit excellence in

education and scholarship. Western University is a graduate university

of health sciences located in Pomona.

The University presents three awards to persons who best

represent the humanistic philosophy of the university. The “”Elie Wiesel

Humanism in Healing Award”” will be presented to David and Cheryl

Duffield. The Duffields founded Maddie’s Fund, the Pet Rescue Foundation

dedicated to the creation of a “”no-kill”” nation and is devoted to saving

the lives of companion animals by ending the practice of euthanasia in

animal shelters. David Duffield is the founder and board chairman of

PeopleSoft.

Internationally acclaimed actress Marlo Thomas will be honored

with the “”Media Award for Advancement in Health and Humanism.”” Thomas

has devoted much of her time to raising monies for St. Jude Children’s

Research Hospital, a world-renowned health care facility founded by her

father, Danny Thomas.

The “”Corporate Award for Excellence in Health Care”” will be

presented to Good Neighbor Pharmacy, a community-mined corporate

developer of more than 2,000 independently-owned pharmacies that make

quality patient care and community support as two of its major focal

points.

Connie Stevens, star of movies, television, Broadway and a gifted

recording artist, will serve as the emcee for the gala event. Ms.

Stevens has been honored by Shriners Hospital, the USO and Cedars Sinai

Medical Center to name a few of the organizations to which she has given

her time and resources.

Over 400 guests are expected to attend the evening event at the

Beverly Hills Hotel, Crystal Ballroom.
