Physical therapy students create class gift for cadaver memorial
First-year doctor of physical therapy students used art to describe what human cadavers meant to them for their annual cadaver memorial.

The memorial service was held Friday, April 29, 2016 after the students’ final practicum, to show respect and honor the human cadaver bodies donated for educational purposes.

Allergan Foundation grant
The Allergan Foundation has awarded a $9,750 grant to Western University of Health Sciences supporting the College of Optometry’s community outreach program, “Strengthening Community Eye Health Education & Awareness.”

 

Alumni news
On the evening of Monday, May 2, Ivan Soberanes, DMD ’16, received the Alumni Memorial Award during the College of Dental Medicine’s Last Lecture event on campus. The only University-wide graduate award, the Alumni Memorial Award is presented annually by the WesternU Alumni Association in memory of deceased alumni to the one graduate throughout the University who best exhibits the dedication and enthusiasm of a future alumnus or alumna. Ivan received $500 and was presented with a plaque by Director of Alumni Relations Russel Heskin.

On Saturday, May 7, 91 COMP alumni (including seven of the eight presenters) and 11 other DOs participated in COMP’s 9th Annual Continuing Medical Education Conference in the Health Education Center. As part of the conference, the doctors enjoyed a networking breakfast with the OMS II class, listened to lectures, and participated in a hands-on OMT workshop.
