Kudos on accomplishments

Congratulations to Fadi Khasawneh, PhD, Assistant Professor Pharmaceutical Sciences, on receiving funding from the Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program (TRDP) for his new investigator grant, titled, "Characterization of Platelet Thromboxane A2 Receptors”. The duration of the grant, which starts July 1, 2010, is three years. The total amount is $277,422.

The College of Pharmacy is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephen O’Barr, PhD, as Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, effective immediately. Dr. O’Barr has served as interim department chair since July 2009 and has served as Director of Graduate Education for the College of Pharmacy since 2007. Dr. O’Barr will oversee the research, service, and teaching programs for a department with 11 faculty, 11 graduate students and a number of research support personnel. Dr. O’Barr has provided outstanding leadership as interim chair, and we are looking forward to expansion of the department and continued growth of our research enterprise under his direction.

From the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific:

Donald E. Walters, PhD, Associate Professor of Pharmacology, was again invited by the National Board of Osteopathic Medicine Examiners to attend a Board Review meeting in Chicago May 20-21, 2010.

From the College of Allied Health Professions:

Kudos on accomplishments

Tina Meyer, DHSc, PA-C, Chair, Department of Health Sciences Education, Assistant Professor, Department of Physician Assistant Education, has been requested to present her abstract, titled “No longer the perfect victims: Demonstrating the mental capacity of crime victims with dementia and cognitive impairment for self-advocacy.” The presentation will be given during the 138th meeting of the American Public Health Association on November 9, 2010 in Denver, Colo.

Department of Physical Therapy Education

Associate Professor and Chair Dee Schilling, PT, PhD, recently served as an invited reviewer by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins for the text "Nursing Research" by Polit and Beck.

Summer Hours

Pumerantz Library summer hours are in effect through Saturday, Aug. 7. The schedule is:

7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday

7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday

11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday
