COMP alumnus awarded Order of the Blue Cross

Dr. James Lally, a team physician for the USA Shooting Team since 1993, has been awarded the Order of the Blue Cross, the highest recognition given by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).

Lally, MMM, DO, President & Chief Medical Officer of Chino Valley Medical Center and 1991 COMP alumnus, was given the Blue Cross medal during the Federation’s executive committee meeting in London in May 2012 because of his long-term contribution to the sport. Click here to view the full story.

Kudos on accomplishments

Dr. Brion Benninger, MD MSc, Professor/Vice Chair, Medical Anatomical Sciences, had his video of the Cranial Nerve Examination incorporated into Brain Injury Medicine: Principles and Practice, 2nd Edition textbook and its electronic version. The book and Dr. Benninger’s video is expected to be published in August 2012. Dr. Benninger is planning on creating more teaching videos with colleagues from COMP-Northwest Family Practice, Samaritan Health Services Orthopaedics in Corvallis, Ore., and the WesternU College of Dental Medicine.

Department of Physical Therapy Education News

Chair and Associate Professor Dee Schilling, PT, PhD and Assistant Professor Janet Konecne, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS recently attended PT 2012 – the Annual Conference and Exposition of the American Physical Therapy Association, which attracted more than 2,300 persons to Tampa, Fla., for three days of professional development and networking.

Kudos on accomplishments

The 2012 National Medicaid and CHIP Oral Health Symposium: Designing Quality in High Definition was held in Washington D.C., June 24 -26. College of Dental Medicine staff and student attending the symposium included Timothy Martinez, DMD, Debbie Hartman, RDHAP, Josih Hostetler, MSW, and Rachel Paik, DMD 2013 student. In addition, community representatives from the San Gabriel Pomona Regional Center, El Monte City School District Health Services, and El Monte Head Start also attended the symposium through funding provided in the WesternU First 5 LA Oral Health and Nutrition Grant. The symposium focused on quality in Oral Healthcare Delivery, including quality data, metrics, measurements, and clinical guidelines. State Medicaid agencies reported on their efforts to improve quality reporting and national health organizations reported on updates to clinical guidelines and discussed the future of diagnostic codes for dentistry. CDM staff and community representatives networked with leaders in Medicaid and CHIP programs to further the work of sustainability in School Based Health Center Oral Health Programs.
