PCC Open House

WesternU’s Patient Care Center will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26. Students, staff and the public are invited to attend this free event, which will include:

• Eye Care Center: Vision screenings, frame styling by the experts, prize raffles, vendor fair, product samples, clinic tours and information sessions.

• WesternU Pharmacy: Flu shots, travel medicine counseling, osteoporosis and diabetes screenings.

• Medical Center: Information about Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehab, and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.

• Foot & Ankle Center: Foot screenings, electronic foot pressure sensing, and a presentation on general foot health.

• Western Diabetes Institute: Educational information on diabetes and hypertension; post-screening educational services, including arranging proper follow-up.

• Dental Center: Information about Dental Center services

Kudos on accomplishments

Susan Mackintosh, DO, MPH, and Marek Malecki, MD, PhD, presented the lectures and organized the workshop on Interprofessional Education (IPE) titled “Interprofessional Case-Based Learning for Improved Collaboration Amongst Healthcare Providers: Leveling the Playing Field in Safety, Access and Equality” at the first International Conference on Health, Wellness, and Society at the University of California, Berkeley, Jan. 20-24, 2011. Dr. Malecki also delivered the lecture, “Health, Genes, Environment.”

The Run for Mobility 2011

Members of the DPT Class of 2013 are running in the Surf City USA half marathon in Huntington Beach on Feb. 6 to raise money for the Free Wheelchair Mission’s Run for Mobility 2011. The Free Wheelchair Mission builds wheelchairs using commonly available components and delivers them to undeveloped countries around the world.
