CVM faculty member consults on Grey’s Anatomy TV show

College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) Associate Professor Diane McClure, DVM, PhD, DACLAM, recently consulted on an episode of the long-running “Grey’s Anatomy” TV show on ABC.

Dr. McClure, an associate professor of laboratory animal medicine at Western University of Health Sciences, was a technical consultant for an episode scheduled to air on Dec. 5, 2013, where Dr. Meredith Grey, played by actress Ellen Pompeo, practices transplanting a 3-D printed blood vessel — seeded with human DNA cells — into a sheep.

Kudos on accomplishments

College of Veterinary Medicine Associate Professor Miguel D. Saggese, Director at Large for the Raptor Research Foundation (an international scientific society whose primary goal is the accumulation and dissemination of scientific information about raptors) was the main organizer and one of the three conference co-chairs of the I Worldwide Raptor Conference. This was the first joint meeting between the most important worldwide raptor research and conservation organizations, such as Raptor Research Foundation, the Neotropical Raptor Network / The Peregrine Fund and the World Working Group on Birds of Prey and Owls. This international meeting was held Oct. 21-24, 2013 in the heart of Nahuel Huapi National Park, Bariloche City, Rio Negro province, Argentina, South America. More than 200 delegates from 30 countries and five continents attended this meeting. For more information please visit

During the meeting, Dr. Saggese presented four different papers (three posters and one oral presentation) some of them as result of collaborative work conducted with researchers from USA, Canada, and Argentina. Two of these papers resulted from Dr. Saggese’s mentoring of two current (Natalie Nguyen and Shelley Taylor) and one former (Dr. Joseph Debrota)WesternU DVM students.

Associate Professor Casey Chaney, PT, PhD, CSCS, OCS was recently elected to a two-year term on the Nominating Committee of the San Gabriel Valley District (SGVD) of the California Physical Therapy Association (CPTA). Dr. Chaney, who currently holds the position of Chair of the SGVD Nominating Committee, is also an elected Assembly Representative of the CPTA.
