Optometry gifts

HOYA, a leading manufacturer of optical lenses, renewed its commitment to WesternU College of Optometry with a nearly $20,000 gift supporting various College activities for the 2013-14 academic year. In addition to this and the previous year’s programmatic support, HOYA is funding two student scholarship funds and will soon complete their $25,000 pledge supporting the building of the Patient Care Center.

Dr. Vanessa D. Hsu of Private Eyes Optometry in Orange, CA recently donated a MARCO RTA5 to the Eye Care Center. This equipment nicely complements our already highly sophisticated Center and will assist our doctors and students in diagnosing of glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, age related macular degeneration, and many other retinal pathologies with speed and accuracy. The gift is values at $12,000. Thank you Dr. Hsu!

The College of Optometry would like to thank our Welcome Week sponsors: Walmart, Pioneer Instruments, HOYA, Keeler, Ophthalmic Instruments, Vistakon, VAP, MARCO, Optometric Extension Foundation and Alcon. As in years past, Alcon is once again the sponsor of the very special White Coat Ceremony.

The College of Optometry would like to say a very special thank you to Linda Kit, OD. Dr. Kit is a member of the College of Optometry’s 2013 inaugural graduating class and the first to make a gift to the College.

VSP has agreed to provide the Eye Care Center a gift-in-kind in the equivalent of $100,000. The gift-in-kind comes in the form of vouchers for low income, non/underinsured populations for eye exams and glasses.

Podiatric Medicine support

The College of Podiatric Medicine would like to thank the Tetra Corporation for their continued support of the White Coat Ceremony.

The College of Podiatric Medicine will again co-sponsor with ProLab Orthotics the 3rd Annual Learning in the Vineyards Education Conference in Napa, Calif., Nov. 1-3 2013. The Conference has gained worldwide recognition for its excellence in education. The internationally-renowned faculty includes leaders in sports medicine, surgery, biomechanics, vascular, diabetic foot care, pediatrics and more. An exciting element of the Conference includes the $500-per-plate donor dinner held in the Meritage Resort’s Wine Cave. The dinner is completely underwritten by ProLab, allowing all money raised from the dinner to go to the Dean’s Scholarship Fund. The dinner is on track to exceed the number of donors from the two previous years.
