Student Pharmacist at WesternU wins Statewide Award for Leadership

A Western University of Health Sciences College of Pharmacy student has been named the recipient of a 2010 Student Leadership Award by the California Society of Health-System Pharmacists (CSHP).

Matthew Rim is a fourth year student pharmacist at WesternU. Rim has served as the Student Section Executive Committee Representative, ASHP/CSHP Chapter President, ASHP Student Liaison, Southern California Society of Health-System Pharmacists Chapter Student Liaison, and CSHP Delegate.

Rim has participated in many professional development programs including his poster presentation at the ASHP Student Society Showcase, presenting “Careers in Pharmacy” to Pomona High School students, and an attendee at CSHP Legislative Day. Additionally, he has been a part of community outreach events such as the YMCA Healthy Kids Day, where he provided health screenings for underprivileged children, and Medicare Part D Outreach, where he helped local seniors find Medicare drug plans. Rim currently works as a clinical research intern under the supervision of Dr. David Min, Western University College of Pharmacy Professor, at National Institute of Transplantation and an intern pharmacist at Rite-Aid Pharmacy.

The Student Leadership Award is presented at CSHP’s annual meeting, Seminar, held October 21-24, 2010 in San Francisco, California and recognizes one student from each California School of Pharmacy who has contributed to CSHP and the pharmacy profession.
