Patient Care Center to open May 12

Unique in its design, mission and range of services, the Western University of Health Sciences Patient Care Center will open to the public on May 12, 2010.

The 78,000-square foot Patient Care Center (PCC) is part of the University’s recent $100-million expansion project, which also includes the Health Education Center, Veterinary Pathology Center, Banfield Veterinary Clinical Center and a seven-story parking structure. The Patient Care Center will be home to the Medical Center, Eye Care Center, Foot & Ankle Center and Pharmacy. The Dental Center is scheduled to open this summer.

Starting at 8 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, the following Centers will open to the public:

• Western University Medical Center – Established in 1984, the Medical Center will move into the PCC from its current location at 887 E. 2nd St., Pomona. It will offer primary care to patients of all ages and medical specialty care to people with endocrine disorders such as diabetes and other metabolic conditions. The Medical Center’s focus is on the health and well being of all who enter the state-of-the-art facility. For an appointment or more information, please call (909) 865-2565.

• Western University Eye Care Center – Patients will benefit from the comprehensive approach provided by experienced faculty optometrists and student interns utilizing the latest in high-tech equipment and procedures that assist in the management of even the most challenging vision problems. The full-service optical department includes an extensive selection of eyeglasses and contact lenses. The Eye Care Center can be reached at (909) 706-3899 for appointments or more information.

• Western University Foot & Ankle Center – Staffed by nationally recognized experts in the field of podiatric medicine, the center offers critical expertise, comprehensive care and management for a full range of foot and ankle problems that can be caused by chronic conditions or injuries. • Western University Pharmacy – Focused on improving the health and wellness of every patient by providing essential information and education for each medication prescribed, this full service pharmacy offers prescription and nonprescription medications, medication consultations, compounding services and more. The Western University Dental Center, which is scheduled to open in summer 2010, is a high-tech facility will provide the ideal environment for patients, with dental students – under the direct supervision of licensed dental faculty – will deliver high-quality and comprehensive oral health care with an emphasis on prevention.

Western University also has partnered with Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center to establish a radiology suite within the Patient Care Center offering basic radiology services.

With an earnest university commitment to interprofessional health education and training, all of the health care providers throughout the Patient Care Center bring a wealth of knowledge and experience that will be used in a collaborative and communicative approach in the provision of comprehensive patient care.
