Joanna Varner has joined Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU)

as the office manager of the Western University Medical Center in Pomona.

In that position, she will update policy and procedure manuals, ensure

that new employees receive proper training, coordinate correspondence and

maintain timely and efficient patient flow.

The Western University Medical Center, located at 360 E. Mission Blvd.,

opened in 1984. It is an ambulatory, primary care, family practice

facility that employs five full-time physicians and three physician

assistants and provides clinical training opportunities for WesternU

students. The Center is a member of the Pomona Clinic Coalition, and

serves close to 150 patients daily.

Varner previously worked as an office manager at Hemet Family Care Center.

She also has held similar positions at FPA-El Norte Medical Group in

Escondido and FPA Medical Management, Inc. in San Diego, and is a

registered medical assistant.

“”I decided to join the Western University Medical Center because it’s a

learning facility,”” she said. “”One of the goals here is to have physicians

lead regular training sessions for the staff so that everyone can become

more educated on the latest issues and research.””

Dawn Fairley, DO, medical director of the Center, said Varner’s experience

with large health care organizations will make her a tremendous asset to

the staff.

“”She is detail-oriented and very knowledgeable about the health care plans

we work with,”” Dr. Fairley said. “”She also is extremely empathetic with

patients, and does her best to accommodate their needs as quickly as

possible.””

Varner is a resident of Temecula and has three children.
