East West Bank will hold several free health fairs in Southern California with a number of partners, including Western University of Health Sciences, from June 13 to July 18.

The 12th annual Mini Health Fair 2009 will offer a variety of screenings, depending on the date and location, such as glucose screenings, blood pressure checks, otoscopic exams, body fat compositions and Hepatitis B testing. Click here to view the health fair schedule.

"East West Bank is glad to partner up again with all of our partners to provide free health services to our community," said Emily Wang, East West Bank marketing director and senior vice president. "This year we covered our events at community centers and other venues in order to reach out to more people in need of these services. Not only are we providing more variety of services, we have also expanded geographically from Los Angeles and Bay area to San Bernardino, Orange County, and even Houston, Texas."

WesternU students and faculty will administer glucose testing and body fat composition at some of the fairs and offer wellness checks and microchipping for pets at others.

During the June 13 fair at La Casa Community Center in San Gabriel and the July 18 fair at SecureHorizons in Alhambra, WesternU will supply the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Veterinary Ambulatory Community Service (VACS) mobile clinic to provide free wellness checks and microchipping for pets.

"Microchipping is a very good tool that allows pets to find their way home," said Eva Maria Jaeger, RVT, VACS Program Coordinator. "It’s a quick and easy service we can provide and they get a free physical exam."

An annual membership fee of $14.99 is required to monitor your pet through HomeAgain, where they add your pet to a national pet recovery database, along with other information to help track a pet if lost.

Partners of the fair include SecureHorizons, UnitedHealthcare, Pacific IPA, Dr. Jeff Wang, Gilead Sciences, I-MEI Foods Co. and Alhambra Hospital Medical Center. In Southern California, three Mini Health Fairs are scheduled in the San Gabriel Valley and one in Orange County, and two in the High Desert communities of Apple Valley, June 26, and Victorville, July 11.
