CVS Caremark made a special check presentation to name the new CVS Caremark Student Services Suite during a visit to the Pomona, Calif. campus of Western University of Health Sciences on April 21, 2010.

Papatya Tankut, RPh, vice president of Pharmacy Professional Services at CVS Caremark, and Chi Vi Tran, Manager, Professional and College Relations at CVS Caremark Pharmacy, were accompanied by CVS Caremark’s District Pharmacy Supervisors, Doug Chang, Mike Tsumura, Seang Foo and Ken Morris as they presented a $75,000 check to Dean Daniel C. Robinson and the College of Pharmacy.

Representing the College of Pharmacy were Dean Robinson, Vice Dean Dr. Jesse Martinez, Associate Dean Dr. Sam Shimomura, Student Services Director Mark Iannuzzo, and Director of Development Paul Stover.

“”We’ve been very fortunate to develop our relationship with CVS Caremark,”” Robinson said.

“”The student quality here is phenomenal,”” responded Tankut. “”We are proud to have them on board as we are hiring 45 graduates this year.””

Dr. Tran was impressed with the great leaders coming out of the school.

Papatya Tankut began working at a pharmacy at 16, after moving to the United States in 1988 from England. Her boss encouraged her to attend the University of Maryland to become a pharmacist. In May, she will have worked for CVS Caremark for 16 years.

WesternU’s College of Pharmacy will be the first college on campus to have its own student services suite. The suite will provide space for private meetings, student interaction and much more.

“”We are honored to have the (CVS Caremark) name on Western University’s campus,”” Tankut said. “”When we think of giving awards and gifts, our primary focus is on gifts that benefit students.””

CVS Caremark’s impact at the College of Pharmacy also includes sponsoring the white coat ceremony, student scholarships — including the East West Scholarship Dinner — and sponsorship of the 2010 Commencement dinner.
