Taping/Splinting Techniques Workshop of Common Musculoskeletal Injuries
WesternU COMP-Northwest medical students received training on acute care taping/splinting treatment for ankle soft tissue injuries from Dr. Brion Benninger, COMP-Northwest Director of the Sports Medicine Track, Dr. Kyle Bangen, Sports Performance Supervisor, and Amy Evilsizer, Senior Athletic Trainer, from Samaritan Athletic Medicine Center, on May 12, 2023.
Medical students learned about different strengths of tape and fundamental techniques for varied injuries and desired functional outcomes. This workshop will lead to opportunities for WesternU students to shadow and/or rotate with physicians from Samaritan Athletic Center. The goal of the workshops is to educate and supplement WesternU students of the theory and treatment of modalities/techniques outside of OMT of common musculoskeletal injuries occurring to all age groups within our communities. Our students’ knowledge of OMT enables them to assess, scrutinize and better understand other treatment modalities.
Dr. Benninger is coordinating research to collaborate with Samaritan Athletic Center and other locations within the state to provide point of care ultrasound for health care providers attending to high school athletes.
