Student Profile: Segun Ezekiel Oke, Class of 2025

What do you love about WesternU’s College of Optometry?
I’d say the people. I believe we have some great individuals here at the school that are very passionate about optometry.
Why did you choose the College of Optometry?
I liked the fact that optometry students at WesternU get to be involved in interprofessional education. This gives us an idea of how to better perform our roles as an optometrist in the future.
Why did you choose the profession of optometry?
Ever since I was a little boy I have found the human eye to be interesting, and that’s mostly based on its different arrays of color pigments that we see in individuals. I chose optometry because I want to learn more about the eyes, and give back to my community.
What are your passions outside optometry? Passion projects?
This would be music, I like writing and recording songs on my free time.
What is your go-to song or artist on your playlist?
I have multiples, but if I have to choose one I’d say Lauren Daigle. Her music is very uplifting.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishment is gaining admission into the WesternU College of Optometry!
What is your favorite quote?
“Fight your fears and you’ll be in battle forever, face your fears and you’ll be free forever” – Lucas Jonkman
What motivates you every day and gets you out of bed in the morning?
Success is what motivates me. The feeling that I get from it is everything.
If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?
Go to a recording studio.
