Donor Profile: Sahil Dosaj, OD 2013
Dr. Sahil Dosaj is a Western University of Health Sciences, College of Optometry, Alumnus who graduated with honors. He was also featured in Newsweek as one of America’s Best Eye Doctors of 2022.
Dr. Sahil and Payal Dosaj established the Dr. Sahil and Payal Dosaj Annual Scholarship for the College of Optometry with a donor commitment of $1,000 annually. The gift was established as their way of giving back to the program where Dr. Sahil graduated in the 2013 inaugural class. In addition, they felt the scholarship was needed as they know that the scholarship could help ease the financial burden of graduate school for many students. The hope is through the scholarship it will provide an incentive for the next generation to continue the tradition of private practice. The scholarship recognizes a 3rd-year Optometry Student with an entrepreneurial path to private practice ownership, involvement in the community, and high academic standards.
Dr. Dosaj is a partner in private practice for Miller Optometry in Yucaipa, California, and has worked with Indian Health Service Hospital for over 9 years since his Residency in 2013. Dr. Dosaj participated in a primary care and ocular disease residency at the Indian Health Services hospital in Crownpoint, New Mexico. Through his experiences at Indian Health Service Hospital, he gained a better knowledge of ocular diseases and gained inter-professional education which he uses in his practice. He has a passion and focus on primary care, ocular disease, specialty contact lenses, and pre and post-op care for LASIK and cataract surgery. In addition to his daily patient care, he is a speaker, lecturer, teaching assistant, father, and husband. He strongly believes that “everyone has an equal right to healthcare and there should be no discrimination in healthcare”. He provides affordable healthcare options to his community. He hopes through their scholarship “future Optometrist will be able to fulfil their dreams”.
