Please join me in congratulating PPAD faculty for their outstanding accomplishments below!

Make sure to read all the way to the bottom to see all the great things that so many faculty have been working on!!

Dr. Anandi Law and her team published a study based on the tool they developed to assess health behavior impacted by the pandemic. This paper is the result of the study from 3 states – CA, OH and IL.

This important work features fellow PPAD faculty Dr. Jason Wong, postdocs (Drs. Amanda Mercadante and Vivian Chu), and collaborators (Dr. Aleda Chen from Cedarville University, OH and Dr. Manu Khare from UIC College of Medicine, Rockford).

Dr. Sheryl Chow continues to grow her extensive involvement with American Heart Association and see her expertise recognized.

Most recently, Dr. Chow was invited to be part of 2 writing groups for AHA guidelines and scientific statements:

  • Writing group member, Dual Heart Transplant AHA Scientific Statement
  • Writing group member, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CRP) and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) AHA 2025 Guidelines

And based on the prior AHA Presidential Advisory paper (presidential advisory) she led on the impact of opioid use on heart and brain health, she was invited to give expert commentary on a recently published article in Circulation on opioid prescriptions after heart device procedures.

Dr. Rachel Ryu shared her expertise and represented well at the CSHP Pacific Coast Preceptor Conference with a presentation on precepting pearls and committee representation on new practitioners:

Ryu R, Zywiec K, Ibrahim HG. “Preceptor Pearls: A Roundtable Discussion on the Successes and Challenges of Preceptorship” [ACPE-accredited]. California Society of Health-System Pharmacists Pacific Coast Preceptor Conference. May 2022.

Dr. Ryu represented California Society of Health-System Pharmacists (CSHP) New Practitioner Executive Committee (NPEC).

Dr. Don Roosan and his research team including Dr. Ying Huang (Pharmaceutical Sciences Department faculty) published an article that focused on current opportunities and challenges for integrating nutritional genomics counseling into clinical practice. Two WesternU students, Yanting Wu and Michael Tran worked with Dr. Roosan throughout last year for this publication.

Dr. Roosan and his research team including Dr. Anne Kugler (PPAD faculty) published an article that focused on formulating a conceptual framework based on a scoping review to improve access to health care data in the community pharmacy setting through the adoption of blockchain technology and AI. Two WesternU students, Yanting Wu and Vineet Tatla (currently a postdoc at Seattle VA) worked with Dr. Roosan throughout last year for this publication.

Dr. Roosan and his research team published a paper based on their development of an augmented reality-based Microsoft HoloLens application for educating providers and patients about pharmacogenomics. The augmented reality application uses artificial intelligence to project pharmacogenomics objects in front of the user and interact visually using the HoloLens.

Way to go, Dr. Roosan, on the hat trick! Hockey fans (maybe other sports fans) will know what I mean by this. 😊

Dr. Roosan also coauthored a book chapter on his work about pharmacogenomics and CYP 450 variant selection.

And Dr. Roosan was an invited speaker for a virtual 15th international conference on health informatics in February 2022, attended by participants from 30 different countries) to present on database development of the MedScrab app he developed.

Congratulations to all of these faculty on their tremendous accomplishments!!
