Western University of Health Sciences’ Research Club of Lebanon will hold its 9th Annual WesternU Oregon Research Symposium from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, on the WesternU College of Health Sciences-Northwest campus, 2665 S. Santiam Hwy, Lebanon, Oregon 97355. This event is sponsored by the WesternU Office of Research and Biotechnology, WesternU Oregon Research Club, and the Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of Oregon.

The keynote speakers will be Brian Delmonaco, MD, from Samaritan Health, who will present “Searching for the Black Swan with The Fat Tail: And What to Do When You Catch It,” and Andy Karduna, PhD, from the University of Oregon, who will present “Neurocontrol of Upper Extremity Movement.”

More than 60 students from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific-Northwest (COMP-Northwest) and College of Health Sciences-Northwest (CHS-Northwest) will provide poster and oral presentations of their research at the symposium from all areas including Basic Science, Clinical and Applied Research. Among the research topics to be presented are: “Preliminary Study: How Personal and Psychosocial Factors Influence Real-World Walking,” “Management of Youth Sport-Related Concussions: Survey of Parents,” “Short-term Global Outreach Clinics and Rural Free Clinics: How do Formularies Compare?” and “Understanding Patient’s Timeline of Lung Cancer Treatment.” There will be awards for first and second place in three categories (Clinical, Basic Science, and Survey research) for poster presentations. There will be first, second, third and fourth place awards for oral presentations.

“Because we are a smaller school compared to other universities, our Research Club’s goal is to showcase the amazing research that is happening at our school and to give students a platform to demonstrate their work,” said WesternU Research Club Fundraiser Coordinator and COMP-Northwest student Doan Phi. “We also wanted to take the opportunity to engage with our local community members who are huge supporters in our school and our students’ success and showcase our research to them.”
