Angelyn K. Moultrie-Lizana, DO, a 1987 graduate of the College of

Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific at Western University of Health

Sciences (WesternU), has been appointed to the Practicing Physicians

Advisory Council. The Council is a group of physicians mandated by

Congress to advise high-level Cabinet members on Medicare matters.

“”All of us at WesternU are very proud of Dr. Moultrie-Lizana’s

achievement,”” said WesternU President Philip Pumerantz, PhD. “”She is

representing the osteopathic profession extremely well, and her selection

for this appointment indicates that her peers think as highly of her as we

do.””

The 15-member Council meets quarterly to advise the Secretary of Health

and Human Services and the Administrator of the Health Care Financing

Administration on proposed changes in Medicare regulations and carrier

manual instructions, and on Medicaid regulations related to physician

services.

Dr. Moultrie-Lizana, who works in family practice at Mullikin Medical

Center in Artesia, was sworn in on March 27 for a four-year term on the

Council. She was nominated for the position by the American College of

Osteopathic Family Physicians.

“”I was surprised and pleased to be appointed to this group,”” she

said. “”I’m hoping that it will give me a chance to help DOs with

reimbursement and Medicare issues, especially relating to osteopathic

manipulative treatment.””

After graduating with her DO degree from WesternU, Dr. Moultrie-Lizana

completed an internship at Tucson General Hospital and a family practice

residency at Pacific Hospital of Long Beach, where she was chief resident.

She worked as associate professor of family medicine at WesternU and

earned a master’s degree in health professions education from the

University in 1994. She is past president of the school’s alumni

association and chairs the continuing medical education committee for the

group. She is president of the L.A. County Osteopathic Medical Association

and on the board of directors for Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of

California.

“”Serving on the Practicing Physicians Advisory Council will give me an

opportunity to learn more about Medicare issues and how to address them,””

Dr. Moultrie-Lizana said. “”I’m really excited at this opportunity to get

involved.””
