""A Day in the Life of a Medical Student"" Receives Critical Acclaim

Documentary featuring WesternU students and faculty wins four prestigious media awards "A Day in the Life of a Medical Student," a documentary filmed for American Health Journal (AHJ), and focused on three medical students from Western University of Health Sciences’ (WesternU) College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP) in various stages of their training, has won four impressive media awards: 2006 MarCom Creative Award, 2006 Accolade Winner, the Davey Award, and the Merit Award from the Service Industry Advertising Awards (SIAA). These awards are given to recipients who present creative and compelling footage and information on topics that are relevant to today’s audiences. COMP students Mahsa Abassi, MS I, Ken Ota, MS II, Andrea Rios, MS III, along with Dean Clint Adams, DO, and several scenes from the various classrooms and lecture halls of COMP were featured in the 30-minute program, which aired in July 2006. "The information acquired during the filming was vast and compelling and I think that was conveyed in show that we presented to our audience," said Roland Perez, executive producer and president of AHJ. Perez presented Dr. Pumerantz, founding president of Western University of Health Sciences with the awards in this week. During his visit, Perez also predicted that the documentary may win a couple more media awards in the coming months. The 30- minute show is hosted by Roger Cooper and produced by Windsor Productions, established experts in health care programming. AHJ has been in production for 18 years and earned approximately 62 national awards for health coverage. The next program AHJ will produce about WesternU will feature the College of Graduate Nursing and will air sometime later this year.
