Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU) has hired Jeanette Janik

to fill the new position of assistant vice president of development.

Janik, previously director of development for spcaLA, the Los Angeles

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, begins the position

September 1. In her new role, she will coordinate the daily operations of

the development office and spearhead the annual fund and capital

campaigns.

“”The position was needed because of the overwhelming growth and success of

our programs,”” said Richard Pumerantz, vice president of development and

major gifts. “”It was time that we brought someone in with who could assist

in all areas of development to help us keep up with our expansion.””

Janik has more than 12 years of development and non-profit experience,

during which time she has directed fund-raising campaigns, recruited and

trained volunteers, written grants, expanded organizational services and

created and managed events. She said she decided to come to WesternU

because of the chance to work in an academic environment.

“”I have always placed a very high value on education; I think it is the

key to a person’s growth and achievement,”” Janik said. “”The thing about

WesternU that makes it so unique and appealing to me is its emphasis on

humanism. Health care professionals at WesternU learn to treat the whole

person, not just the person’s disease. This approach in the delivery of

health care services is making an enormous contribution to our society’s

overall well-being.””

She said one of her goals is to increase the visibility of the University

in the Southern California area.

“”I want to make sure we’re reaching as many people as possible in the

greater Los Angeles area and beyond,”” Janik said.

She earned her BA in sociology from the University of New Hampshire and

attended the Graduate School of Social Service at Fordham University in

New York. Janik also maintains a professional affiliation with the

National Society of Fundraising Executives.

She resides in Monrovia and has four adult children. She enjoys hiking,

bike riding and tennis in her free time.
